POST 706

COMMANDER’S CORNER
Happy New Year to everyone! Here’s hoping you will have a very prosperous New Year wherever you go and whatever you do.
New door access cards will be issued beginning 10 January. You must turn in your orange card before a new card is issued. For those who are Continuous Members, if your dues are not current, you will not get a new access card until you pay your 2010 dues.
There are lots of interesting things happening at the Post this year. If you have any ideas to make us more successful, something you would like to see happen or make happen, give me a call or send me an email. I will respond, GUARANTEED (vfwpost706@gmail.com).
I am looking for someone to take over the House Committee Chairman position. If you have an interest and want to make things happen to improve the functions at the Post; how about meeting with me to discuss your interests. I am all ears!
Bingo resumes on Monday, 4 January. We are discussing bigger pots for blackout games, but haven’t gotten all the bugs worked out, but we’ll let y’all know when we do. Like I said earlier, it will be an interesting year here at the "V".
Visit the Post website for updated information and activity calendars of the new VFW fiscal year, 2010. Log on to www.vfw706.org.

SENIOR VICE’S CORNER
"The past is dead; let it bury its dead, its hope, and its aspiration; before you lies the future – a future full of golden promise." Jefferson Davis
Here is my pre-New Year’s wish for all – Happy New Year and the thought of greater achievements for VFW Post 706.
The Post has 638 members. Our Post activities need the participation of all its membership in one way or another. Please do not depend on the "usual suspects" to carry the load because those horses are going to eventually fall down, never to rise again.
It is that much dreaded time of New Year’s Resolutions. May I suggest a couple of resolutions that are relatively easy to keep and will give you some really warm and fuzzy feelings.
1. Be active in at least one VFW program such as Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy, Public Servants of the Year Award, Eagle Scout of the Year and etc. just to name a few.
2. Recruit one new member or encourage a member to renew their membership. The Post needs everyone’s help to retain our members and gain new ones.
3. Support one Post event a month.
Just a reminder - the Enterprise Division of the Naval Sea Cadet program sponsored by PNAS continues to need adult volunteers. Give some of your time and military experience to aid our young people.
VOICE OF DEMOCRACY/PATRIOT’S PEN
Congratulations to our Patriot’s Pen winner Taylor N. Mikulla, Jim Bailey Middle School. He was selected to represent District I at the State level competition. Keep pulling for Taylor and let’s take him to National!

COOTIES CORNER

Listen Comrades, Cooties, Ladies, et al,
Here is hoping that you survived the rush and excitement of the past few weeks and are ready to face the challenges of the new year that lies ahead.
All-in-all I think we had a good year, with both the VFW and MOC nearing the target of 100% membership. It behoves us all to ask those that we know (or think) are eligible to sign on the dotted line and get with the program.
If you are a working member of VFW or Auxilary and are interested in becoming one of the Honor Degree (MOC or MOCA) yet have not been asked to join our elite group, you need only let it be known that you are interested and I am sure someone will get the hint and invite you to membership.
Let us all get behind the fine slate of officers and assist them in every way to make our Post and canteen a greater success. If you have ideas to improve things, contact a House Committee member or a Post officer and I am sure any reasonable suggest will be considered.
The MOC and MOCA will do our best to
"Keep 'Em Smilin' in Beds of White." in 2010.
Yours in L.O.T.C.S.

Hello Sisters, Happy New Year to all. It's time for us to start the New Year off right. This means ringing out the old and ringing in the new. It's time we all come together and work as a team and not always against one another. Enough is enough!!!!
Reminder, our first dinner of the New Year will be 9 January, and we will be doing "Pot Luck." Please sign your name to the list of what you are going to bring. Our next meeting will be on 20 January. Come out and join us and bring some new ideas. I also want to remind you of our District meeting that will be here at our Post 6 February. The ladies will provide the meal that will be served for only $5.00. Come join us. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and everyone of you that has been so supportive since I took office in June 2009. Without some of you, I could not have made it this far. So, again, thank you.

POST CANTEEN CORNER
Hello my Canteen freinds and family.
It's time to start the New Year off right. I would like to see more of you supporting the things we have to offer at YOUR Post. So many of you only come in to play Bingo and that is wonderful but, we do more then just Bingo. The way I see it, if you can come to the Post on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, you can certainly can come on a Saturday to support the dinners and entertainment that we have on certain nights. We need your support. I feel we keep preaching to the choir, but no one is listening. It's time you hear us! If things do not change one day you may have no Post to enjoy whatsoever.
When you receive your Newsletter, look and see what is going on. It may be something you might like to come out and do. If you have an idea or suggestion, we are open to hearing your voice. Reminder: On a happier note……Don't forget we are having our BIG SUPER BOWL PARTY on 7 February, and you don't want to miss this. It will be great food and wonderful fun for all. Of course we will have drink specials too! Thanks to all of you that did support the canteen in 2009. I hope that 2010 will be better for all.

We have another Flag Disposal Drop Box located at Sham Poochies, 2106 Creighton Rd. Know anyone who has an old, deteriated Flag? Remind them of the locations of our drop boxes for proper disposal of those Ragged Old Flags.

GOOD OF THE ORDER
The District I meeting is coming to Post 706 on Saturday, 6 February 2010, starting at 1000. Plan on attending to show your support for our Post.
Come support our dances and entertainment and enjoy yourself at the Post. We could sure use your help and you could sure use some real fun and entertainment for a change!
Supporting the Post is not just attending a monthly meeting on occasion; it is contributing by volunteering when needed so we can spread the workload around and not let just a few do all the work. Check with me or any Post officer to see where you can be best utilized. We have several areas that need involvement from our membership. One day per member would result in working once every two or three years. Think about it. Do your part, get involved.
We have close to 700 members; 600 or so never come by the "V". Call your friends. Come by the Post. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or issues you want to affect, don’t be afraid to speak up and take a stand. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! WE NEED YOUR IDEAS! But most of all WE NEED YOU!!!
