POST 706

COMMANDER’S CORNER

We are holding our Post elections for the 2010-11 fiscal year at our 21 April Post meeting. Additionally, you must provide a letter of acceptance if you are nominated for a position but are unable to attend the April meeting.

Nominations from the March meeting as follows: Commander – Richard Mullen; Sr. Vice Commander – Victor Looney; Jr. Vice Commander – DC Horne; Judge Advocate – Jim Briley; Surgeon – Tom Eddington; Chaplain – Doc Cloud; Three Year Trustee – Bill Jacobson.

We have several events to plan over the coming months. Armed Forces Day, 15 May, will be our annual open house. We have commitments from several organizations to participate and set up displays. Additionally, we will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1100 that day.

On 31 May, we have the Memorial Day Service at the NAS Pensacola Chapel. And on 18 September we will hold our POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony at the Post.

I would like to introduce our newest members elected to our Post in March: David M. Gates, David K. Hill, Paul Demoncada.

Thanks to all my fellow comrades and sisters for supporting our Post. We have had a continued success on Saturday nights with the dinners and entertainment. It is because of your support that we are turning the corner on success. It feels good!

We are currently at 96% in our quest for 100% membership. Call one of your friends and remind them to pay their dues so we can attain our membership goal. Let’s make this happen. As the Third ID motto says: “Can Do.”

Mailing your dues to National can lead to delays in getting them posted. You can now go online to www.vfw.org and pay your dues. On the main screen, click on Membership; then click on Current Members; then click on Secure Log In; fill in the required blanks and you can pay your annual dues electronically.

Visit the Post website for updated information and activity calendars of the new VFW fiscal year, 2010. Log on to www.vfw706.org.

Richard Mullen

Commander

SENIOR VICE’S CORNER

The Post is at 96% membership from last year’s numbers. A couple of more recruitments and renewals and we shall be 100% in membership.

Be vigilant, be brave and active!” - A rephrasing from a Patrick Henry’s saying, that being said, how about taking a courageous step? Volunteer to help a Post project! Memorial Day and Armed Forces Day are rapidly approaching. The Junior Vice needs some help with the “Buddy Poppy Drive” plus our annual open house needs volunteers. Just a reminder - the Enterprise Division of the Naval Sea Cadet program sponsored by PNAS continues to need adult volunteers. Give some of your time and military experience to mentor our young people.

Thank you for all your help and support with our awards ceremony honoring the teachers and public servants of the year for 2009. It gives me a wonderful feeling seeing their eyes light up and the wonderful smiles that cross their faces when we thank them for their service.

Victor Looney

Sr. Vice Commander

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

In light of the recent political squabbling, let us this Easter fall to our knees and unite in prayer for healing:

Oh Lord hear our prayers. When we are afraid, give us courage to face our fears. When we are angry, fill our hearts with your precious peace. When we want to hate, teach us to love instead. When we want to avenge, teach us instead to forgive. When we are ill, heal us with your comforting balm. When we are hurt, bind up our wounds and make us whole again. Hear our prayers for healing, for mercy, for love, let us not be tempted to turn to darkness, or to give in to fear, but instead fortify against evil and make smooth the path before us so that we shall not stumble. Oh Lord, continue to bless this country and those whom you have chosen to lead it. So often we fear for the future of this land we love.

We see the scars of violence and the heartbreak of those who are left in its wake. We see corruption and we pray for your forgiveness. Bless us all with your wisdom and discernment. Turn the hearts of this country back to you so that we might become all you intended for us to be---Beacons of light in the world you have created. We ask this in the name of our Risen Savior. Happy Easter everyone!!

Madam President

MEN’S AUXILIARY

Dang! We ran out of chicken at last month’s dinner. Guaranteed we won’t let that happen again. Because you care, you made a big show of support. Without it we

would not have run out of chicken! Thanks to all.

We did increase the amounts of ribs and chicken so we won’t run out again…we hope!  Our dinners start at 6:00 PM, and the food goes very quickly, so an earlier

arrival would be beneficial.  Once again, we appreciate the great support in the past and hope everyone continues to support the Men's Auxiliary.

We need as many members as possible to show up for the meeting this month.  We have some new ideas to discuss and need more insight.  Our meeting will be

held Thursday, 8 April at 6:00.  Our dinner will be on 24 April at 6:00 PM as well.  Thank You all and God Bless.  HAPPY EASTER!!!
