POST 706

COMMANDER’S CORNER
A lot has transpired over the past month. Several of us attended the State Convention in Orlando and the State Commander’s School of Instruction in Ocala. Whew! Didn’t know all the traveling would occur within a couple of weeks.
The State’s website has a lot of information posted for all to review. It has links for the SunVet, Florida’s VFW Magazine which has gone paperless. It is available at www.myfloridavfw.org and there are several other links to access information you may be interested in. For details, check out the website.
I would like to introduce our newest members voted into our Post in July: Buford Baily, Billy Blackwelder, William Wenzel, Richard Hufner, Richard Peters, Howard Prince, Henry Sergent, Robert Sergent, and Gerhard Skaar. Congratulations to our newest VFW comrades.
I would like to personally thank our Military Order of the Cootie, Ladies Auxiliary, and Men’s Auxiliary for their generous donations to the Post this month. Thank you all for doing your part to make us a success.
We have a lot of activities coming in August as you can see on our calendar of events. Be sure to come and wish Joe and Renee all the best, 14 August, in their coming years. And don’t miss our END of SUMMER BASH on the 28th.
Mailing your dues to National can lead to delays in getting them posted. You can now go online to www.vfw.org and pay your dues. On the main screen, click on Membership; then click on Current Members; then click on Secure Log In; fill in the required blanks and you can pay your annual dues electronically.
At our last meeting, the membership voted to raise the annual dues from $25 to $30. Of the $30, National, State, and District take all but $3.75. The rest is used by the Post to run our everyday programs to include this newsletter. When you renew for 2011, remember to go online and process your dues that way; or you can send the money directly to the Post and we will process them within 48 hours. New 2011 membership cards will be mailed within 5 – 10 business days once processed. National usually takes awhile longer as they have so many to process. Plan on paying your dues early to avoid the end of the year rush.
Visit the Post website for updated information and activity calendars of the new VFW fiscal year, 2010. Log on to www.vfw706.org.

We can give the cadets some really good training and confidence building experiences if you are willing to give of yourself and your time.

Please pray for the conversation of our nation and it's territories back to Christianity. May our prayers continue until the whole world shall know that we are indeed a Christian Nation. In that thought let us pray daily the following prayer for National patriotism. "Father, we pray in Jesus' name that You would restore a social conscience to our nation.
We pray that we would again see the value of teaching our children the virtue of being good citizens-to not only live for the good of the individual but for the good of others as well.
Dear Father, we desire to see our nation restored to Godly integrity and excellence, so that our children can be proud of their and proud to be called citizens of it.
In recognizing our duty to God and our country, keep us mindful to pray for our nation not only in our churches and our homes, but also in the quietness of our daily lives. Amen.
May God Bless America !!
May God Bless everyone!
Amen! Thanks and God bless,
“Doc” Cloud, Chaplain
P.S. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" ( 2 Chron. 7:14 ).

AMERICANISM

MEMBERS WANTED!
We are going to have our semi-annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Labor Day, 6 September. Please get the word out to your fellow Sisters and Comrades. The ceremony will start at 1100 followed by a Pig Roast luncheon at 1230 or 1300.
We now have 8 flag drop box locations around Pensacola. Locations now include: Wellness Center – Corry Station, Jerry’s Cajun Seafood, Subaru car dealership – Car City, Pen-Air Federal Credit Union, Sham Poochies – Creighton Rd, to name a few.
If you see someone displaying a flag that is worn, why don’t you remind them it is more disgraceful to fly a worn out flag than it is to fly no flag at all. Encourage them to buy a new flag or donate a flag to them in the name of the Post.
Check your garage or shed and see what spare building materials you have lying around. We could use some 2X4s, plywood, lighting fixtures, or general electrical supplies. This type of donation is a win/win situation for you and the Post. You will get a donation receipt for a tax write-off and you will help the Post defer the costs of buying these materials we could put to use. Please coordinate your donations with a Trustee or Post Officer as we do not have a great deal of storage space. We can pick it up if you can’t deliver your donated items.

I am looking for a 12 – 15 foot tall flagpole for our retirement ceremonies. If anyone has an old flagpole they no long want or need, please contact me at the Post. I will come pick it up and we would definitely put it to use on 6 September.

In an effort to save money we are going to discontinue mailing the newsletter to those with internet capabilities. The newsletter is available 24/7 online at www.vfw706.org. If you receive the paper copy of the newsletter and have an email address, how about sending an email to the Post with your preferred email address. In that way, you will receive a monthly email as soon as the newsletter is posted on the internet. It is usually up a couple days before the paper copy gets assembled and mailed. You can save the Post the costs for printing and mailing if you would just send in your email address. Every little bit counts!
~ BINGO ~ THE BIG GAME!
We have had several $250 winners over the summer on our Big Game, and no individual has won twice. Someone has to win; it might as well be you!
